Where our farm has turned up
Every piece here was written by someone else. We have linked them all, including the ones that push back on parts of what we do.

Biographies & headshots
Short and long biographies for the family, plus portraits. Ask and we will send them over.
She knew the food system could be better
Benina grew up on the farm, went through 4-H and FFA, and graduated from Cal Poly in 2001 before coming straight home. She worked with the beef cattle for a couple of years, then moved across to the almonds.
In January 2004 she went into partnership with her parents, Ward and Rosie. She was a young woman running 650 acres of almonds at a time when that was uncommon. She farms 1,200 acres today.
Since then she has planted olives, brought sheep in to graze between the tree rows, grown a direct side to the business, and taken the farm through both Regenerative Organic and Regenified certification.
What we talk about
Our family speaks at conferences, field days and farm events. These are the things we have worked through ourselves, and we are always glad to compare notes with people doing the same. Heriberto can present in Spanish.
Why certify, in the middle of today's competition?
What certification asked of us, what it has given back, and how we think about it in a year when prices are tight.
What does regenerative look like day to day?
Not the principles, the calendar. When the sheep come through, what we stopped buying, and what an ordinary week on the farm actually looks like.
How did we choose to grow and scale?
650 acres to 1,200, then olives, walnuts and selling direct. What we took on, what we left alone, and how we decided.
What changed when the animals came back?
Sheep between the tree rows and hens out on pasture. Stocking, timing, what it replaced, and what took us a few seasons to get right.
How does soil health show up in the food?
What our nutrient density testing has shown so far, and how carefully we think it ought to be talked about.
What does handing on a farm involve?
A partnership with parents, four children coming up behind, and the conversations that come with both.
